Well-Balanced Meal

Well-Balanced Meal by Patricia Brey

“My plate is full” the woman said, obviously overwhelmed by her daily life. So I asked myself, “Do I have a full plate?” Yes, I do, but I don’t feel over-burdened like she did. And that got me to thinking…

We've all gone to a buffet or stood in line at a pot luck meal. And have you ever noticed other people’s plates as they leave the line? Some people pile it up so high, you wonder how they will ever eat it all. Children, at least my granddaughters, will walk away with just potato chips, cake, and couple cookies. And just in case I’m watching, they add one tiny carrot. So, although their plates are “full” it is not well balanced nor healthy.

So is your plate full of prayer, good deeds, fellowship, ministering to others, edifying the brethren? Or is it full of EARTH? So many things need to be done: shopping, laundry, cooking, wash the dishes, a job to go to, mow the lawn, shovel the snow, etc. etc. etc.

God wants us to have a well balanced life. He knows what you have need of. He knows you live on the earth. Go to work….sure. But did you pray today? Gas up the car? Yes, but did you take a moment to call a sister or brother to see how they are doing? So you have a full plate? Good. But is it full of earth or is it a well balanced meal?
