Have you ever made instant pudding? Well if you haven’t, let me tell you how it’s done. You pour the dry pudding mix into a bowl and add 2 cups of cold milk. Next you stir for 2 minutes. Viola! PUDDING! See, you have to stir it up, or you will not get pudding. And when you do stir it up, the dry pudding mix now becomes something all together different. Sweet, smooth, creamy pudding.
That’s what I look for in Christians. Pudding? No, silly, not pudding. Lots of people in the world hear the word of God and go, "Oh yes, I understand." But it doesn’t CHANGE them. The word of God has power that literally CHANGES who you are, making you to become ‘like him." When the word of God is preached, those words are making you to become like Him. Kinda like pudding. It starts in one form, and them changes into something different. The word of God is the pudding mix, and the milk is your faith. But unless you stir it up, it will never become pudding.
Heb 4:2 "For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it."

Get Out of My Way
GET OUT OF MY WAY
Stop at the bank, get gas, drive through McDonald’s, jump on the expressway, go home. The drive home on a Friday night is always exasperating, especially when you live in a big city. People are in such a hurry. They think they are the most important people in the whole world and everyone else should get out of their way. “...if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.” Galatians 5:3
Can’t wait! Coming through! Me first! They don’t realize it, but they all end up at the same place in the same line. They believe they’re living righteously and on the road to heaven. “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore, the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.” Ecclesiates 8:11
They shove and push to get ahead in line, only to find that when the door is finally opened, it is the door to hell! The bible says in Ephesians 4:3, “Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving. . .” In Galatians 5:20, “As we have, therefore, opportunity, let us do good unto all men . . . .” And in Romans 12:10, “...in honor, preferring one another.”
So let them pass, take skips, shove by. After all, we’re not really headed in the same direction as they are.

Father of Lights
James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” Father of lights? What a curious phase. I just had to ask, “Father, What does that mean?”
I didn’t get an answer during my prayer time. But later that night, my answer came in a dream. It was very short and only lasted about a minute. In the dream, all I could see was my index finger on my right hand. It had a long, deep cut across the finger tip. Out of the cut poured rays of light. You know, like after a summer storm has passed and out of the darkness, there is a break in the clouds, and streams of lightbeams come cascading down. John 12:36 “While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light.” Beams of exceedingly bright light poured out of me. That’s all there was. But I understood. God is Light and He is in Us. He’s the Father of Lights. We’re His little lights…His children. Philippians 2:15 “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;”

Baaaa!
There’s a wolf among us, was the warning that came from the God. That was pretty scary to hear and I was concerned. And if you know me at all, you know I immediately went to God and said, “Father, who is it?!?”
He didn’t tell me…I don’t even think I expected He would. As the days went on, I continued to talk to Him about it. Not like “Oh God, I just HAVE to know who it is!” But more like, “there is an enemy amongst us. That’s bothersome to me. I don’t wanna ‘buddy up’ to someone who wants to destroy me and have me for dinner…and I don’t mean as a dinner guest!”
So back to God I went. “God, I’m really uncomfortable with this knowledge. It makes me afraid.” But God wasn’t saying anything. After a few attempts to get through to God, I finally just opened my mouth, and with a very good imitation of a sheep, I said, “Baaaa.” I sounded just like a lamb. Then I did it again: “Baaaa” I guess it was just my way of expressing to God, “God, I am your helpless little lamb and I know there is a dangerous wolf and I’m scared!”
It may sound silly to you, saying “baaa,” but my God heard me. And He told me something that I want to share with you. He said this: “stick close to the shepherd.” What do sheep actually do if there is a wolf near by? I dunno. I’m not a shepherd. But it sure seemed right to me that I would want to stick close to the one who is my protection. Isn’t God cool? He not only warns us…but, in addition, He does not leave us comfortless. With the knowledge that an enemy was close by, also came the knowledge that He is my protection and if I “stick close to the shepherd” everything will be alright.

Chinese Bamboo
(This is something I printed in the church newsletter -- but it still worth reading again.)
Bamboo has been known to grow at an amazing rate of two inches an hour. In the bamboo family, there is a species known as Chinese Bamboo. When the Chinese Bamboo is planted, the seed is buried for five years, seemingly without activity. During that time it must be watered and fed or it will die. If properly cared for, the Chinese Bamboo begins to grow suddenly during the fifth year. It shoots up 90 feet in 60 days.
Would you say that the bamboo grew in the final six weeks or over the entire five years? It took five years of feeding and nurturing to bring it to the level where it could reach such miraculous growth. The growth is impressive. But the seemingly dormant period beforehand was absolutely vital.
In a spiritual sense, some of us may be like the Chinese Bamboo. You may appear not to be growing spiritually, but a few years from now you may sprout into a ministry of dynamic proportions.

Sticky Situation
I should have never left the house that morning. Nevertheless, I ventured out to take Allison, my 3 year old granddaughter, to McDonald’s. When we arrived, she headed straight to Playland as I grabbed us a booth. I took a few minutes enjoy watching Allison play, before heading out to the service counter to grab a cup of coffee. I hadn’t gone far before noticing Allison was right on my heels. Did I actually think for a minute she would let me go for food without her? That kid never stops eating! She must have a metabolism like a nuclear reactor.
Anyway, kid in hand, I went for my coffee…and eggs....and sausage....and pancakes. Once back in the play area, I prepared the food for my impatient granddaughter. Hurrying along, I did a big "no-no". I couldn’t get a good grip on the cover of the syrup and so I squeezed. Bad move. It squirted syrup all over everything. Everything but the pancakes, that is. My shirt was covered with it. And do you suppose my sweet, loving, 3 year old granddaughter would say, "aw, poor Gramma. Forget my breakfast, let’s go home so you can get those icky sticky clothes off?" Only in my dreams. All she kept saying is, "I want pancakes. Grandma, I want my pancakes. Grandma? Grandma! I want my pancakes." She wasn’t about to let me out of that place without a) giving her food to eat, and b) letting her play for awhile. With few alternatives, I ran back to the counter for a handful of napkins, and stuck one napkin over each spot on my shirt where syrup had landed, hoping to avoid spreading the sticky mess. Back at the booth, I began to serve up the pancakes to my "starving" grandchild. The problem was, our trainee counter person had forgotten to give us dinnerware. Back up to a very busy service counter, this time, covered with bright white napkins syrup-glued to my red shirt. I was about to loose it. Amazingly, I survived and it wasn’t long before I was back home and in clean clothes. What a mess that ordeal had been.
Later that night, I told a friend about my day. We had a good laugh. (Note to reader: I was not laughing when it happened.) As our conversation continued, she told me about something that happened to her.
She was going shopping with her friend from church. As they were about to leave, her friend’s 16 year old son refused to get into the back of the car, allowing the adults to ride up front. My friend said she good-naturedly tried to convince him, but he wouldn’t budge, and worst of all, the mother did not intervene.
Being offended by his disrespect, it clung to her spirit like white napkins syrup-glued to a bright red shirt! She prayed on it; she thought on it; and she finally took it to her authority—her husband
He, too, seemed concerned with the disrespect and, in turn, spoke to the boy’s father. It wasn’t long before it went full circle back to the boy’s mom, who now seemed to be avoiding my friend, which hurt her feelings.
"What should I do?" she asked.
"The whole thing seems like a sticky situation to me." I answered. "Couldn’t you have gotten in the back seat and humbled yourself and let God be in control instead of trying to make sure the right thing was done?"
"Well, yes," she acknowledged, "but do you think I did wrong?"
"I can’t say, but by not just accepting the circumstances, and letting God be in control, it turned out to be a big mess. And when the mom didn’t intervene," I continued, "the battleground had already been drawn. It was unlikely that there would be a winner in a situation like this. Perhaps to humble oneself by getting in the back seat would have been the best thing to do."
These are the hard lessons to learn to those who are to be Christ-like. God’s word tells us, "Love never insists on its own way." Learning to be humble is not always taking the easiest path. When we esteem one another more highly, it seems God always intervenes in one way or another to deal with the situation in ways we do not understand. But just trust Him, knowing that you are His child and His works are great.

Why is it I relate to Losers?
I am in awe that God would call me “righteous” and would choose me to be His child. After all the horrible things I’ve done. He picked me…amazing! I was born of His Spirit many years ago, and thinking back to that time, I remember what God brought me out of. One day I was reading about Esau giving up his birthright I said to myself, "Yea, I can relate, Esau. Why is it I can relate to all the losers in the bible?” Later on I found out what God thought about the matter, when He said in Romans 9:13: "...Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated."
Then I learned about the Israelites. When they were in the wilderness for forty years and they insisted that God give them meat to eat. Again I said, "Boy can I relate." I would not be very happy if I had to eat the same thing day after day for forty years. God was not pleased with their unthankfulness nor the fact that they were whining and saying "we were better off in Egypt." That made Him angry. Do you know what He said to them? I love this, because it sounds like something a parent would say. He said: Quit your wining! Fine! You can have meat. As a matter of fact, you will eat meat until it comes out of your noses!" Now THAT I could really relate to.
Numbers 11:18 "...Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat. You shall not eat one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days, but a whole month, until it comes out at your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you, because you have rejected the Lord who is among you, and have wept before him, saying, 'Why did we come forth out of Egypt?"
That was the beginning of God’s teaching me about thankfulness. It’s been about 20 years and I’m still learning. But here are a few tidbits I’ve learned:
The Israelites should have never brought up Egypt. Think before you complain!
Be careful what you ask for...He just may give it to you!
Be thankful for God’s blessings. Complaining will get you nothing; being thankful opens the door for more blessings.
Don't whine! Whining may work if you are two years old but it doesn't work with God. (Trust me on this one…I’ve tried it and it really doesn’t work.)
I not only whined constantly, I complained, I got angry, and I blamed God for all my problems. “After all,” I reasoned, “He has the power and yet He chooses not to help me.” But those were immature thoughts of a baby Christian. And when I remember back to those times, I truly can praise God for His mercy. For truly I should have been destroyed when I dared to blame Him for my sin. How foolish. How ignorant. But you see, My Father is so loving towards me because I am His child. He is for me. He wants me to learn. He is making me to be like Him. So He is patient…long suffering towards me. And oh! What mercy this God has!

A Hair Out of Place
When I was younger, I had very long hair, which I often wore twisted up and attached to the back of my head. One day, throughout the whole day I could feel an uncomfortable pinch on my head. Finally, after much aggravation, I investigated, and found one strand of hair that was not with the rest.
Earlier that morning, while brushing my hair, I thought I had precisely arranged each and every hair, but with thousands of strands of hair, one little rebel had gone its own way, affecting my whole body. How could a little strand of hair be such an irritation? It had gotten separated from the rest and was pulling against my head, causing a "little sting" every time I would move. One little, out-of-place hair going it's own way, was pulling in a different direction from the rest. The only solution was to let down my hair, gather up the lost strand, and twist it back into place with the others, forming one strong band which I reattached to my head. The whole incident reminded me of the Body of Christ. If one of us goes our own way -- One little hair out of place, one little soul out of step -- pulling away from the rest, it can effect the entire body. "For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones."
Have you been out of sync with the group? Distracted by the world and all of its business and pleasures? Maybe it's time to allow yourself to be gathered up again, back into the family of God, twisted together, strengthened in numbers, and firmly re-attached to the Head, Jesus Christ. "…the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God."

Blue Light Special
Ephesians 1:13-14 says: "…You were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession…"
Looking up "earnest" I found that it means: a pledge, that is, part of the purchase money or property given in advance as security for the rest. In other words: a down payment.
Down payment? Purchased possession? I started talking to God. "God, it sounds like You’re putting us on layaway." For a moment, I was beginning to feel like a "Blue Light Special" at the local K-Mart.
I may be joking a bit, but it’s true, in a way. We are on lay-a-way. The price was paid at Calvary and He’s coming back to pick up his "purchased possession" which is us.
Acts 20:28 "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood."

Do Me a Favor
While trying to relocate in a different city, my niece, Debbie, was kind enough to invite me to stay with her until I could find housing. One day I was on the phone talking with my friend, Joyce, and another call came in on "call waiting," so I put Joyce on hold while I answered the other call.
It was Debbie. "Hey, would you do me a favor?"
Without hesitation I answered, "Sure."
"You're saying 'yes' without even knowing what the favor is?" she asked.
"Sure. I know you wouldn't ask me to do anything I am not capable to do." It was obvious that I trusted my niece.
"Oh, O.K. Would you mind mailing the electric bill for me. It's on the kitchen table."
"Sure. No problem. See you later."
When I switched back over to my friend Joyce, I explained what the call was about. As I related the story, I thought of another reason why I had said "yes" before even knowing what Debbie wanted. It was because, having lived in her home rent-free for two months, I felt I owed her too much to say "no."
Joyce replied, "That's the way it should be when God asks us to do something. He'll never ask us to do anything we are not capable of. Besides, We owe Him too much to say no."

Clouds
I love clouds. My favorite ones are the big, cotton-candy cumulus clouds. (Say THAT 3 times really fast!) But the thing about clouds is, your perspective is key. Up close, it’s merely fog, however, from far away, their majestic beauty is revealed.
Problems in life can be like clouds. When you are in the midst of a problem, it’s nothing but a dense fog that obscures your path. But God is faithful. Even when you can’t see where you are going, He is directing your paths. And after God has delivered you out of the foggy problem, you are able to look back upon the trial and see the majesty and beauty of God’s work. His works are great!!
