Blue Light Special

Ephesians 1:13-14 says: "…You were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession…"
Looking up "earnest" I found that it means: a pledge, that is, part of the purchase money or property given in advance as security for the rest. In other words: a down payment.
Down payment? Purchased possession? I started talking to God. "God, it sounds like You’re putting us on layaway." For a moment, I was beginning to feel like a "Blue Light Special" at the local K-Mart.
I may be joking a bit, but it’s true, in a way. We are on lay-a-way. The price was paid at Calvary and He’s coming back to pick up his "purchased possession" which is us.
Acts 20:28 "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood."
