When I was younger, I had very long hair, which I often wore twisted up and attached to the back of my head. One day, throughout the whole day I could feel an uncomfortable pinch on my head. Finally, after much aggravation, I investigated, and found one strand of hair that was not with the rest.
Earlier that morning, while brushing my hair, I thought I had precisely arranged each and every hair, but with thousands of strands of hair, one little rebel had gone its own way, affecting my whole body. How could a little strand of hair be such an irritation? It had gotten separated from the rest and was pulling against my head, causing a "little sting" every time I would move. One little, out-of-place hair going it's own way, was pulling in a different direction from the rest. The only solution was to let down my hair, gather up the lost strand, and twist it back into place with the others, forming one strong band which I reattached to my head. The whole incident reminded me of the Body of Christ. If one of us goes our own way -- One little hair out of place, one little soul out of step -- pulling away from the rest, it can effect the entire body. "For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones."
Have you been out of sync with the group? Distracted by the world and all of its business and pleasures? Maybe it's time to allow yourself to be gathered up again, back into the family of God, twisted together, strengthened in numbers, and firmly re-attached to the Head, Jesus Christ. "…the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God."
